Workroom examples

See the construction up close

A suit is a collection of carefully balanced pieces. These real Openfit examples show the jacket shapes, sleeves, pockets, waistbands and trouser proportions we assess when discussing an alteration. They are examples of garments and fittings—not staged before-and-after images.

Grey tweed blazer showing lapels, button fastening, pockets and full-length sleeves

Jacket proportions

A structured tweed blazer makes the key balance points easy to see: shoulder line, lapels, button position, body length and sleeve length.

Grey wool jacket showing tailored pocket, sleeve and side-body construction

Jacket body and sleeves

Close detail of a wool jacket, showing the pocket placement and clean sleeve-to-body relationship considered during a fitting.

Navy single-button blazer with contrast piping on the lapels and front edges

Finished edges and detail

Contrast piping and a defined lapel show why jacket shortening or sleeve work must preserve the original construction and finish.

Cream double-breasted tailored overcoat displayed on a dress form

Structured outerwear

Coats and longer jackets need proportion across the shoulders, body, sleeves, hem and pockets—not just a simple length change.

Dark textured trousers and floral trousers showing different trouser shapes and finishes

Trouser shape and finish

Different trouser fabrics and shapes require different approaches to the hem, waistband, crease and leg line.

Customer wearing a jacket and checked trousers during an Openfit fitting

Fitting the whole outfit

We assess jacket and trouser balance together so the finished suit looks intentional when standing, moving and sitting.

Blue and yellow striped jacket on a dress form in the Openfit workroom

Jacket construction

A close view of a distinctive jacket shows the collar, lapels, seams and sleeve shape we consider when fitting or reshaping a jacket.

Person wearing a pale pink suit during a fitting

Full suit fitting

Jacket length, sleeve position, trouser rise and leg line all work together when a full suit is fitted.

Red trousers being checked during an Openfit fitting

Trouser leg and hem

A trouser fitting checks the leg line, seat, length and finishing so the garment hangs cleanly when worn.

FAQ

Suit fitting questions

How long before an event should I bring my suit in?

Ideally 1–2 weeks before your event. Most suit alterations are ready within a week. If it's urgent, call us and we'll see what we can do.

Can you alter a made-to-measure suit?

Yes — we're the official fitting partner for Hockerty, an international made-to-measure brand. We regularly fine-tune made-to-measure garments for the perfect fit.

My suit jacket doesn't fit but the trousers do — can you just do the jacket?

Absolutely. We alter individual pieces as well as full suits. Just bring in whichever piece needs work.

Can you take a suit in if I've lost weight?

Yes — we can take in the jacket body, seat, and trousers. Bring it in and we'll assess how much can be taken in based on the existing seam allowances.

Ready to look your best?

Walk in with your suit — no appointment needed. Mon–Sat 10:30am–5:00pm.
